2016-17 Season has Kicked Off!!

Posted: October 05, 2016

The 2016-17 Season has kicked off! I can’t believe curling season is already back in full swing! The summer was a much needed break from the ice to spend some quality time with our families, play a little golf, and of course get back to the office.

Summer highlights for Team Koe went like this: Ben went to Pebble Beach for amazing golf trip, Kevin hit the Shuswap for a house boating trip, Marc found his 6-pack again in the gym and purchased a new house, and Lainger welcomed baby Skyla to his family. Other than that a pretty standard summer for the world champs!

We obviously all had a great summer as it’s hard not to enjoy it when you come off a great season, and top it off with a world championship! We did many events with our sponsors, our home club the Glencoe Club and also some speaking events where we got to share stories about the season and take the Brier Tankard and World Trophies with us to take pictures with all who attended!

Back to the season, as we already have secured our Olympic trials spot for next year we are not playing quite as much as last year, but we still have a pretty busy schedule as you can see on our schedule link.

Our first event of the year was Sept. 15-18 for the Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ont. This event has been around for years honoring the late Shorty Jenkins, and the city of Cornwall and its volunteers did a great job of making this one of the best events on tour! The on ice aspect of this event went as planned for Team Koe as we played well, and got some breaks to rattle off 8 wins in a row to capture the title over Brad Gushue in the final!

We have enjoyed a couple weeks off to get some solid practice time in and get ready for a good stretch of curling coming up from Thanksgiving weekend onward. Our next event will be Oct 7-10 in Edmonton, AB for another great tour stop with the DHD Fall Classic. It’s always nice to play close to home and see some family and friends out cheering us on, so we always look forward to this event.

I would like to give a HUGE THANKS to our great sponsors who are back on board with us again this season. Without them we certainly couldn’t put the time into our sport like we do! Starting with our title Sponsor Meridian Manufacturing, Weed Man, WSP Canada, UFA, Repsol, Rod Wild at Wild Rows, Balance Plus, North Cariboo Air, GenEthix, and Taylor Made! You can see all their bio’s and links on our website sponsor page!

Hope everyone had a great summer and is looking forward to another season on the ice! See ya around the rinks..

Benny
