2016 Koe Kickoff

It was quite the busy start to 2016 for the boys as we kicked off the new year with a 16 day road trip!

Let’s start with our trip to Scotland for the world curling tour event in Perth. For Marc and I it was our first trip there but for Koe and Lainger they had been to this event before, so they were giving us a heads up about how awesome of a Country it is!  They were right, Scotland didn’t disappoint one bit. Except for the size of the beds, and that fact that it poured rain for 7 days! Haha......In all seriousness though, it was a grade A event and the organizing committee did a wonderful job from start to finish, we were treated like kings there for the week and the people of Scotland were fantastic to make our trip memorable!  Oh and on top of all that we won the event which was a tough one with all the top European teams there, and Mr. David Hay got us on the Old Course in St. Andrews which was the highlight of the trip for all of us!  All four of us our large golf fans, and so after many years of watching The Open Championship, and then getting a chance to play it, on The Old Course (In real Open Championship weather) was a once in a lifetime experience!

After we won the event Sunday night in Perth, we headed out at 5am Monday morning to Las Vegas to join up with Team North America for the 2016 Continental Cup!  After a smooth 26 hours of milk run travel we landed in the bright lights of Vegas.. ...We were all super tired so we went right to bed! ;);)… None of us were in Vegas the last time the Continental Cup was there, but we heard it was good.  Well it was great, the fans that poured in from Canada to cheer us on and take in the event were amazing, and getting to play in front of a sold out arena, and interact with the fans at the hotel made the whole event even better!  Shout out to our NA Teammates and coaches for the week, we had a blast with all of you!  Oh ya, and for the event itself, it was a barn burner coming down to a last shot victory for Team North America!  I’ve played in 6 Continental Cups and this was by far the most exciting finish I’ve been a part of!  Great job to all involved in getting this event to what it is down in Vegas, and I just heard its going back next year.. Gonna be a tough one to get into but I would be up for going back! Ha..

Had a nice really needed 2 week break after Vegas to get some much needed family time in with our wives and kids, and to refresh the batteries for our Provincials in Camrose AB!

Heading into Camrose we had a target on our back, as we have had a great season to date and we knew if we played our best we had a great shot at representing AB at the Brier in Ottawa.  Not sure how to describe our week at Provs besides saying it was a character building week for our team.  We lost 2 games in a triple knockout format and ran into some really good teams who made us earn our 2nd straight Provincial Championship, but in the end it made it that much more rewarding and got us battle tested for the toughest Brier field I have ever seen.

We are pumped, and have been working hard on and off ice to get ready for the Brier in O-town!  It’s going to be a doozie..

Special thanks to all our Sponsors who have been along for this journey with us, as we couldn’t do any of this without you!

Till Next Time,

Benny Heebz
