2015-2016 First Half Update
Posted: December 21, 2015
Well we have reached the Christmas break part of our season and what a season it has been so far for us!
After evaluating our and downs last year, we put in some hard work this summer and early part of this season with our coach on how to become not only a better team, but better individually as well. Big thanks to our coach John Dunn, and Paul Webster for helping us in the area’s we needed to improve so we could take our game to the next level!
As for the season, here a quick rundown:
We qualified in all 8 events we played in
2 Major Wins – Grand Slam in NFLD & Canada Cup in Grand Prairie
1 WCT event win Edmonton
1 Runner up in Portage
2 Grand Slam semi’s and 1 Grand Slam Quarter
Every event played we gave ourselves a chance to compete and even win the event! One of the goals we wanted was to be a very tough team to beat and we have accomplished that goal so far this year! With the men’s game having so many great teams it’s very tough to win every single weekend. You certainly need some breaks along the way, and we have earned those breaks this year. (Couple bad one’s I’d say too) Haha..
Obviously our biggest accomplishment of the year thus far was winning the Canada Cup in Grand Prairie. This may be the toughest event I’ve played in my life based on the talent of the teams. It’s basically the Olympics Trials without the winner going to the Olympics. Round robin vs the 8 best men’s team on the planet, 10 ends and only 3 teams make playoffs! Needless to say we brought our best effort that week and in the end we were the last team standing which has set us up great for 2016-2017-2018. The first part of our goal is complete because with that win we have secured a spot in the 2017 Olympic Trials in Ottawa. First team in! Not bad for having such a rocky season last year!
The Canada Cup win also got us a spot representing team North America in Vegas this coming January. Lookout Vegas, Team Koe is coming in hot. Literally, we leave on January 3rd for a WCT event in Perth, Scotland and from there head straight to Vegas to join our North American teammates to try to keep the cup on the “good guys” team.
It goes without saying that our January is now full and with Provincials coming in February we are super pumped to kick back with our families over the holidays and get some much needed rest!
We want to say a big thanks to all of our sponsors for the continued support, as we certainly couldn’t do what we do without all of you!!
Have a Merry Christmas and New Year’s and we will be in touch in the new year!
